IRON IMPERIVM FESTIVAL
In a world where the metal scene has never been bigger or more mainstream, it sometimes feels like the music has lost its very essence. With ticket prices soaring and legendary bands playing more for work than for passion, young and angry souls—the true lifeblood of metal—often find themselves locked out. For those of us who can’t cross that financial barrier, our gaze shifts back to the raw passion and genuine feeling of the underground. And here we find ourselves, at the inaugural IRON IMPERIVM FEST, a new festival where metal, lifestyle, and empowerment take centre stage.
VENI VIDI VICI
Iron Imperium was created by Domenico D’Amato with a clear goal in mind: not just a classic clothing brand inspired by ancient history, but a brand that forges an attitude, blending ancient wisdom with everyday life. Iron Imperium, alongside various partnerships with international fighters, is also deeply active in the combat sports in the UK as the main sponsor of Cage Warriors Academy, supporting young fighters on their path to immortality. The brand is also the main sponsor for the ancient football team Harpastum Centuria Roma and in partnership with the Azzurri Santa Croce (Florentine “Calcio Storico”), where literally they fight for honour and glory. After a few years, this ultimate vision found its perfect home at The Dev in Camden Town. The Dev is a true temple for the underground, a must-visit venue where both legendary and unknown bands have kept the scene alive and rooted in London’s darker side.
On the surface, Iron Imperium Fest looked like a classic indoor festival: a merch corner, happy crowds already primed for the moshpit, and busy bartenders (a fantastic team). But the packed pub was charged with an unprecedented vibe. You could feel you were witnessing the birth of something new, an event that seamlessly blended history, fierce riffs, hugs, and smiles with dancers and traditional sounds. The three bands that played fiercely mirrored everything Iron Imperium represents.
OWNED BY NO MAN, BEHOLDEN TO NONE
Two dancers from Noctyra opened the event. They are a multidisciplinary London-based dance troupe that features an eclectic mix of fusion bellydance, contemporary dance, and theatrical performance art. Embracing mythological and mystical themes, they delighted the crowd with three distinct acts, performing before each band. Their performance—featuring veils, candles, and swords—evoked mystery and dedication, and the crowd answered with full support.
The first band to take the stage was Lethal Evil, who immediately plunged The Dev into an atmospheric darkness, lit only by stark, eerie green lights. For the next 50 minutes, the band unleashed a fierce and relentless attack of pure, old-school thrash and death metal, destroying the stage from the first song to the last. As a trio, they produced an incredibly rich, full-bodied sound. The singer-guitarist led the charge, his riffs a masterclass in controlled aggression. He spat out razor-sharp, high-speed thrash lines before dropping into a chugging, down-tuned death metal groove that shook the room.
The rhythm section was an absolute powerhouse; the bass provided a thick, grinding low-end that glued the chaos together, while the drums flawlessly alternated between frantic, galloping thrash beats and crushing, mid-paced grooves that demanded a moshpit. Capping it all off were the visceral, throat-shredding screams of the frontman. Bathed in that green glow, the band’s performance was a powerful reminder that hell isn’t just fire and ice but is also the raw, untamable, and relentless force of nature. Lethal Evil set an already high bar for the night.
The second band, the French Deos, stormed the stage fully armoured and armed with raw riffs. Hailing their sound as “Extreme Roman Metal,” they immediately proved it was no idle boast. From the first song, we knew there would be no mercy—exactly how we like it. This was a sonic siege. The guitars unleashed a disciplined barrage of raw, scything riffs that cut through the crowd like a gladius, while the vocals barked commands like a centurion on the front line.
The rhythm section was the war engine driving the assault. The drums pounded out relentless, thundering cadences, shifting seamlessly between brutal, high-speed blast beats and a ground-shaking, legionary march that shook the very foundations of Londinium. Just as this musical conquest reached its peak, the spectacle escalated. During their song ‘Post Tenebras Lux,’ the Noctyra dancers returned to the stage to feed the band grapes. In a perfect storm of glorious chaos, grapes flew over the mosh pit, inflatable swords appeared, and people crowd surfed among the blades, enjoying the final cavalcade of Deos.
After a short break, the dancers returned for their final, mesmerizing act, and the crowd welcomed the last band of the night: Concrete Age. They had the task of closing the night’s live music, and they delivered an experience unlike any other. Originally from the North Caucasus region and now based in London, Concrete Age proved they truly follow their own path. This wasn’t just a set; it was a shamanistic ritual.
The band masterfully blends the visceral, raw power of extreme metal with the ancient, primal sounds of folk music. The air filled with a hypnotic energy as primal melodies from distant lands—played on authentic instruments—wove around crushing, technical metal riffs. The relentless drumming wasn’t just percussion; it was a tribal, trance-inducing heartbeat that resonated deep in the chest. This is their “shamanistic magic” made real.
One moment, the crowd was captivated, swaying as if in a trance to these soulful, ancient sounds; the next, a blistering wave of riffs would crash over them, reigniting the moshpit. They create music that engages both the heart and the mind, speaking directly to the soul. Concrete Age was the perfect, otherworldly conclusion to the live performances, leaving the audience spellbound and proving that metal truly has no boundaries.
On their last notes, the Iron Imperium Fest concluded, but the night was far from over. The party continued until 2 AM with DJ Temple of the Cat, a mysterious artist who blended songs from classics to the deepest forests of the death/black metal landscape while MMA fights played on the giant screen. People kept moshing, drinking, and celebrating a grassroots vibe that only the underground scene can provide. It’s a night that will be remembered for months… at least until the second edition.
Iron Imperium Fest provided all the right answers. The underground is still alive and strong, and unforgettable events are born from great ideas and genuine passion. A special thanks to everybody who helped make the night a success: Black Meadow DJ, promoter, and the lights engineer who gave us all the darkness with spotless efficiency. Claudio Ravanelli film for the pics and videos, Cece_lawless for the success of the live on TikTok (over 50k likes), the Allfathermetal international magazine for their strong online support, and Monsta Events, who, alongside many successful events, organizes Metal 2 the Masses to allow bands to play at Bloodstock Open Air.
The night perfectly mirrored the message Iron Imperium wanted to pass, grandly stamped on their new collection:
DO NOT EXPLAIN YOUR PHILOSOPHY. EMBODY IT
