REVIEW SCORE: 7
Spite returns with their fifth album, New World Killer, produced by Will Putney and featuring renowned names from the deathcore scene. This album will be a major draw for fans of the genre. Comprised of ten songs, the album starts strong with a distinctive deathcore sound—blast beats and fast drum work are present throughout. It’s a great reminiscence of early 2010s releases, when deathcore was emerging, and it’s intensely focused on heavy breakdowns while maintaining a raw, authentic vocal style. While many other bands in the scene have experimented with varied vocal techniques, New World Killer remains consistent from start to finish.
All in all, it’s breakdown after breakdown—definitely a recommendation for fans of Fit For An Autopsy, The Black Dahlia Murder, and similar acts. I find the album’s consistency refreshing; it’s neither overly pretentious nor trying too hard, instead staying true to the very genre it represents.
