Chicago horror-themed death metal band Necronomicon Ex Mortis are set to release its ferocious EP, Zombie Blood Nightmare. The title says it all: horror B-movie themes that draw in fans of the macabre, and talented musicianship that blends perfectly with today’s death metal. Vocals are harsh and heavy, which is typical of the death metal-horror genre blend, creating a limitless cache of metal fun.
The E.P begins with the fast and furious, ‘Left To Die’ track that rips like a buzzsaw through your soul. This heavy, evil-sounding song punches a solo from guest guitarist Jeff Young of Megadeth fame, who absolutely shines. The chorus is catchy, creating that earworm effect. ‘No More Room In Hell’ is an homage to the movie Dawn Of The Dead. Heavy, punching a frenzy of riffs and cool bass lines leaning more to a full-on death metal sound. ‘Chopped Up And Burned’ is a seven-minute magnum opus that pays tribute to the cult classic The Evil Dead. A chaotic death/thrash track with guitar work from guest Jeff Young. Crushing killer riff after riff smash this track wide open.
‘Lumbering Blood Sucking Freaks’ is a slower, darker, heavy song that produces a zombie-like groove. This is horror-themed metal at its best. This track is guaranteed to give you goosebumps. ‘Hungry For Brains’, a death/ thrasher with a guest solo by James Norton, a personal friend of the band. This blood thirsty, zombie-themed track is an all-out attack that cuts deep. The last song, ‘Démoni,’ pays homage to the Italian horror classic Demons. With many time signature shifts that raise the song’s brutality to a new level. Relentless shredding and heavy drums create a mix that perfectly complements the dark vocals. This E.P links the two metal and horror genres in a seamless blend, creating a fun, face-smashing experience that leaves you craving more.
