Hard rock super group, Black Swan, is set to release their third album, Paralyzed, via Frontiers Music SLR. This band has an impressive pedigree, Robin McAuley vocals (McAuley Schenker Group), Reb Beach, guitarist (Winger, Whitesnake), Jeff Pilson, bass (Foreigner, The End Machine, ex-Dokken) and Matt Starr (Ace Frehley, Mr Big) all coming together for this modern rock release. What I like most about this album is that every track is different with no repetition. The vocals and musicianship are top-notch, and that’s not surprising with the background of all the members. This album is for hard rock and metal fans who long for that 1980’s vibe, but set to 2026 standards. I can see this album finding a home on many top album lists for 2026.
The album begins with ‘When The Cold Wind Blows’, a thumping, riff-driven track that sets the tone. Robin’s vocals soar; this song has a cool, catchy melody. ‘Death Of Me’ has that cool 1980’s vibe that I grew up on, transporting me back to ‘‘86’86. Reb’s solo is fantastic, and the chorus is memorable. ‘Different Kind Of Women’ has a cool drum intro setting up a fun party vibe. This song has an old school Whitesnake vibe with a hint of blues in Robin’s vocals, making it one of my personal favourites. Early release single ‘If I Were King’ is a great track, pushing heavy opening riffs, punching a wicked, heavier metal vibe. Robin’s vocals are again showcased on this.
‘Shakedown’ brings back that 1980’s sound, creating a fun, catchy chorus; the beat on this track is addictive. ‘The Fire And The Flame’ was another early release single. A heavier rock song, showcasing this band’s diversity. Another talented solo by Reb makes this another of my favourites. ‘I’m Ready’ is a thicker sounding ballad that slows the album down, but has a darker vibe that creates a cool sound. Not your typical ballad. ‘Paralyzed’ is a faster track that has an infectious beat. I would love to see this song played live; it has such a catchy chorus. ‘Carry On’ begins with a superb intro riff and then takes off. Another heavy offering, with a cool melody. It also has my favourite guitar solo on the record. ‘Battered And Bruised’ is a bluesy mid-paced track that brings the heat. This has a darker feel and really showcases the band’s talent. The final track, ‘What The Future Holds’, finishes this album off on a high note, as it began. A wicked bass intro ignites this track into another great song. I love how the guitar and bass play off each other.
