REVIEWED BY: ANGELICA RAMIREZ
REVIEW SCORE: 7
Lantlôs has been in the scene for over 20 years now, and while at the start of their career, they were mostly on the atmospheric black metal/shoegaze side, this album definitely marks a change in their direction. I think this album is largely a nod to the late ’90s and early 2000s; more in line with what you’d expect from bands like Deadsy, The Smashing Pumpkins, and the like. It’s such an unexpected change in sound that I still can’t fully grasp it.
This album will definitely appeal to the millennials within us, evoking the nostalgia this kind of sound brings and, for many of us, recalling the starting point that led us into heavier, more extreme music. The album’s production is very good, and the musicianship is definitely there. The guitar work is excellent, and Markus’s voice fits perfectly with this different style (or direction) the band is taking.
For fans of the aforementioned bands, as well as Placebo or even Deftones, this is a great album to scratch that nostalgic itch in these strange times we’re living in.
