Swedish death metal band Vomitory is back with a new release, In Death Throws, a much anticipated follow-up from their 2023 comeback album All Heads Are Gonna Roll via Metal Blade Records. Formed in 1989, the band released eight albums between 1996 and 2011 before going on hiatus in 2013, eventually returning with a welcomed reunion in 2019. This band remains a front-runner in brutal death metal that never really lets you come up for air.

First track, ‘Rapture In Rupture’, is a quick, aggressive opener packed with massive riffs and relentless energy. Vocalist Erik Rundqvist delivers some of the harshest death metal vocals, perfectly matching the controlled chaos of the instrumentation. ‘For Gore And Country’ was one of the early singles and builds anticipation with a surprising sense of melody for such an aggressive genre, driven by pounding drums and heavy, unforgiving riffs that make it strangely catchy. ‘Forever Scorned’ keeps the pace absolutely punishing, blending superb riffs with brutal vocals, while also introducing a slower section that opens into wicked growls—easily one of the standout moments.

‘Wrath Inbound’ continues the early single momentum with a darker, groove-heavy feel, led by pounding drums and thick bass that deepen the track’s atmosphere. The title track ‘In Death Throws’ delivers a relentless machine-gun attack of speed and intensity, with vocals and guitars locked into pure aggression. ‘Cataclysmic Fleshfront’ doubles down on that aggression with nonstop guitar drive and crushing chugs, while ‘Two And A Half Men’ even nods to Celtic Frost in its opening vocal growl before launching into another showcase of blistering speed. ‘Erased In Red’ leans more into a thrash-influenced structure, adding dynamic shifts between darker passages and heavy, drum-led chug sections that give it extra weight. ‘The Zombie War General’ keeps the momentum high with massive guitar tone and brutal vocal delivery, leading into the closing track ‘Oblivion Protocol’.

‘Oblivion Protocol’ ends the album with a tight, catchy intro that quickly explodes into fast, unrelenting heaviness, combining everything the record has offered—speed, groove, and aggression—into one final assault. Vomitory has stayed true to being one of the strongest names in modern death metal, relying on top-tier musicianship, vocals, and sheer intensity. Their approach in 2026 continues to prioritize quality over quantity, and In Death Throes stands as one of the strongest releases in the genre so far this year.
