THE REVIEW
Music from bands that stays true to, and honours, its classic roots sometimes takes a few listens to register and make its full impact. That is the case with the NWOBHM Tygers Of Pan Tang‘s new album, Electrifyed. Rather than moving to slick modern production tricks, the Tygers rely on solid songwriting, excellent guitar work, harmonies, and all-around great songs. This album is easy to listen to.
Electrifyed opens with the up-tempo ‘Rise Up!’, a great guitar-driven track featuring an excellent lead guitar solo from their new guitarist, John Foottit. John is a great addition to the band that fits right into the long tradition of very talented lead guitarists in Tygers of Pan Tang. The title track ‘Electrifyed’ has a heavier feel, with the verses carrying it and making it memorable. ‘Dark Skies’ is another heavier song with a catchy chorus that exemplifies what this album is all about, an enjoyable album from start to finish that takes you on a classic heavy metal journey. Once again, every member of the band turns in a professional, high-quality performance. This is a great band.
Electrifyed doesn’t hit you all at once; it’s a consistent “grower” of an album that gets better and reveals something new with each listen. Job well done!
