SCORPION MILK
Slime Of The Times

Scorpion Milk is the new project by Mat “Kvohst” McNerney. In the vein of Grave Pleasures and the cult band Beastmilk, this is his new apocalyptic post-punk project. First of all, if you like Grave Pleasures, there’s a huge chance you will like Scorpion Milk. However, this new project by McNerney is both more influenced by 80s punk and goth rock bands as well as synthwave projects.
This album is such a great way to bring reflection to the dystopian reality that we are living in. Bringing a lot of the Sisters of Mercy/Killing Joke, and even Bauhaus vibes to it, but mixed with what you’d expect from Carpenter Brut/Health/Drab Majesty, without leaving aside the black metal influences and roots. Most of the lyrics are very in-your-face, thought-provoking, and interesting, offering metaphors that reflect the collective reality humanity is experiencing. McNerney’s eclectic style fits beautifully with the message he’s trying to convey.
My favorite tracks were ‘She Wolf of London’ with that Misfits-like quality to it, horror movies, and all that jazz. ‘Another Day Another Abyss’ is such an optimistic song in its own dark way. ‘All the Fear’ is a killer opening song, and the homonymous ‘Slime Of The Times’ makes you feel the slime that is covering the world and would not let you see through. The album works as a whole, and I believe there’s a deeper intention to the way it is formulated.
