THE SETUP
Nunslaughter embodies everything I love about the metal I listen to the most. Their sound is raw and unpolished, but delivered with a level of skill and precision that proves the chaos is entirely intentional. Officially, they fall under the category of death metal, but their obsession with Satanic themes has long since pushed them to crown themselves “devil metal.” Undeniably, there are blackened thrash elements throughout, but that might just be the pure anti‑Christian fury radiating from every riff. Since forming in 1987, Nunslaughter has amassed an enormous discography and honed their sound into something instantly recognizable, giving longtime fans a massive, blood‑soaked catalog to dig through.
THE REVIEW
Satanic Chaos Legions, set to be released 6/26/26, is their debut album on BLKIIBLK Records and has everything longtime fans expect, while also being a standalone album well-suited to attracting first-time listeners and future fans. It is full of Satanic themes, pulverizing drums, face-melting riffs, and raw, aggressive vocals.
The opening track is always something I pay extra attention to when I’m analyzing an album, as it sets the tone and gives the listener the first impression of what they’re in for. This opener, the title track, is a perfect choice to kick off this album because it’s a prime example of what you can expect from Nunslaughter. It’s unrelentingly fast with a really standout riff. It pulls you in and makes you feel ready for battle.
Moving into ‘Jesus Fucking Dies’ and ‘Unsacrament’ immediately validated my request to review this album. I personally love Nunslaughter because they are fast, ruthless, and fun. I’m not here for the rock ballads and the acoustic sets; I come to Nunslaughter for the unrelenting speed and brutality. ‘Unsacrament’ has brilliant guitar work, and ‘Jesus Fucking Dies’ is a great example of why I admire Wrath’s drum work so much. Wrath is a big part of why I’m a fan; he drives the speed and you feel urgent and anxious the whole time you’re listening (in the best way possible). That being said, if you are into mid-tempo moshers that you can headbang to in real time, ‘Christian Ruse’ is a standout rager. If you are looking to just strap on your meanest face, cross your arms, and slowly, angrily nod along, ‘Peukharist’ (and yes, that title got me) and ‘Heavenless’ are for you. They are slow and heavy and show that Nunslaughter can do slow and pissed just as well as they can do fast and pissed.
There are lots of great standout moments throughout the album. I particularly enjoy when the vocal and drum combo come together in the forefront of ‘Die Your Own Death’ while the guitar takes a back seat. ‘Rotten Messiah’ has some great riff changes that catch you off guard (in a good way) when they switch, and ‘In The Flames Of Inferno’ has a very cool, unique melody.
The album ends with more short, pulverizing bangers, three extremely solid ones in a row. In fact, ‘Listen To The Lies’, as much as it’s only about a minute long, is probably my favorite track on the album. It was pointed out to me by a fellow writer that I have a habit of referring to tracks as “face melters,” and let me tell you, if I had to give someone a definition of what a face melter is, it’s this track right here. It opens and ends with vocal samples and kicks into ribcage-shattering drum work. It’s full of fury and fun as hell, and the best part is that ‘Infernal Reign’ and ‘The Spear Of Satan’, the two tracks right after it, are also mean, fast, mini ragers.
THE VERDICT
Overall, Satanic Chaos Legions is extremely well balanced. It opens with the ultimate Satanic anthem; it shows off their technical skills; the middle of the album breaks up the speed with mid-tempo moshers and brutal, mean bangers; and it ends with a high-intensity outburst of speed. Ultimately, it has everything you want in a Nunslaughter album.
