GAME MISCONDVCT
If one quote sums up the music and attitude of Sherbrooke, Quebec-based hockey-themed slammers Game Miscondvct, it’s the one above. It’s a direct line from the Canadian hockey movie Goon, a fantastic comedy that follows bouncer-turned-hockey enforcer Doug Glatt (played by Seann William Scott). The guys use the French-language clip as an intro to the ridiculously brutal song ‘J.T.T. (Jockstraptesticulartorsion)’ from their debut E.P., Full Speed Zamboni Massacre, which drops via CDN Records on October 29th. What do Goon and Game Miscondvct have in common, you ask? The answer is a potent mix of hockey culture, raw Canadian grit, and absurdly over-the-top brutality, which they slam (with Doug Glatt force) straight into 70 BPM knuckle-dragging breakdowns.
Drummer Nil Vallières gives us some insight into how the band got its start and why they chose hockey as an anchor for their songs: “Yannick (our singer) and I are huge hockey fans. The hockey theme came about early on because we always talked about hockey on stage between songs. Then one day, I saw Restrictor Plate’s Slamtona, which focused on NASCAR, and everything just clicked together. Yannick played hockey throughout high school and still plays in a beer league today. As for me, my dad played his whole life and still plays today, so I grew up going to a ton of games. For Danick (bassist) and Marc-Antoine (guitarist), their love for hockey actually came from being in the band with Yannick and me (haha).”
If you are unfamiliar with the above-mentioned Restrictor Plate, they are a Richmond, Virginia-based slam/beatdown hardcore band that took a niche sport like NASCAR and built an ultra-brutal, tongue-in-cheek aesthetic around it. The Miscondvctees grabbed that game plan, hopped the boards, and started dropping slapshots straight into mangled-tooth faces with songs such as ‘Slapshot/Headshot’, ‘Premeditated Beer League Homicide’, ‘Full Speed Zamboni Massacre’, ‘J.T.T (Jockstraptesticulartorsion)’, and ‘Highstick Lobotomy’.
You might be wondering who Game Misconduct‘s favourite NHL team is, right? Well, if, like me, you guessed the Habs (Montreal Canadiens), you’d be partially right. While the Habs are the team they actively root for, bassist Danick also has a deep love for the defunct (but never forgotten) Quebec Nordiques, who relocated to Denver, Colorado, in May 1995 and were renamed the Colorado Avalanche.
Physical copies of Full Speed Zamboni Massacre are available for preorder via the CDN Records site through November 6th. Stay tuned to Slam Worldwide as they are set to drop the gloves for a video premiere on October 29th. Lace ’em up and prepare for a high-stick slam straight to your stanky-danky, Cheeto-dust-covered face!
… “Go Habs Go!” “Olé, Olé, Olé!”…
